See All › Arthur Matthew Franz, resident of Macomb since 1997, died peacefully January 23, 2011. He was 66 years of age. Arthur was born in Detroit on July 22, 1944, son of the late Albert and Norma (Phillips) Franz. He was united in marriage to his beloved Sharon on June 6, 1965 in Nativity Catholic Church of Detroit. The couple resided in Detroit and was blessed with three beautiful children. The family moved to Clinton Township in 1984. Arthur worked as a shop manager for Standard Detroit for many years and retired from Pioneer Steel in 2006 after 13 years as their salesman. Since 1981, Arthur has been an active member of the Knights of Columbus, 3797 Father Solanus Casey Council of Roseville. He was an avid reader and a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Arthur had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. Above all, he was a devoted family man with great values, and an adoring grandfather who lived for each and every moment he got to share in their company. Arthur touched an immeasurable amount of hearts and the compassion and friendship that he extended was a blessing to all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sharon; loving children, Christopher (Alexandria), LeighAnne (Franz) Martin and Paula (Robert) Yenkel; cherished granddaughters, Bridget, Emma, Addison, Jessica, Jennifer and Elise; dear brothers, Robert (Nancy), Raymond (Christine) & Gregory (Susan); and by many beautiful nieces and nephews.

Paynter Jr. in The Caine Mutiny (1954). Franz was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. His interest in acting developed while he was still a student in high school.[2] During World War II, Franz served as a B-24 Liberator navigator in the United States Army Air Forces. He was shot down over Romania and incarcerated in a POW camp, from which he later escaped. Franz's Broadway credits include Command Decision (1947), The Moon Vine (1942), Little Darling (1942), and Hope for a Harvest (1941).[3] Franz made his screen debut in Jungle Patrol (1948).[4] He appeared in Roseanna McCoy (1949), Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man (1951), Eight Iron Men (1952), Invaders From Mars (1953), The Unholy Wife (1957), and Monster on the Campus (1958) among many others. In The Sniper (1952), he played a rare lead in the film's title role as a tormented killer; earlier, he co-starred with John Wayne in the World War II film Sands of Iwo Jima (1949) and with Ronald Reagan in Hellcats of the Navy (1957).[5]
