Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process.  The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods.  Although Naturopathic Physicians are licensed in twenty states, they are not currently licensed in Texas.   Naturopathic medical training programs are four-year, in-residence, graduate-level medical school programs at accredited naturopathic medicine schools. Five naturopathic medicine schools in the United States (one with two campuses) and two naturopathic medicine schools in Canada are members of the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medicine Colleges (AANMC), and have been accredited by one of the regional accrediting agencies approved by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition, AANMC member schools’ naturopathic medical programs have been accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME), the recognized accreditor for naturopathic medical programs in North America. Like conventional medical schools, naturopathic medical programs require that applicants meet specific pre-requisites. Though the requirements differ slightly from school to school, all AANMC member schools require an undergraduate degree; have minimum GPA requirements; and academic prerequisites, encompassing biology, chemistry, physics, algebra, psychology, social sciences, and humanities.

Desert Trail welcomes walkers to medical center campus Rich Tarinelli leads a tour of the Desert Trail walking path at Dixie Regional Medical Center, St. George, Utah, August 14, 2015 | Photo by JJ DeForest, St. George News ST. GEORGE – The healing power of nature was the focus of a walking tour on the grounds of Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George Friday. The walk is the first in a series of monthly morning social walks hosted by the St. George Chamber of Commerce and Intermountain Healthcare to promote a healthy lifestyle. More than 20 guests explored the Desert Trail portion of the hospital’s extensive landscape led by Rich Tarinelli, landscape supervisor. The trail is the newest feature in the mile of pathways that make up the landscape gardens. The tour served as an introduction to the collaboration between the campus landscape and the LiVe Well component of the medical center that encourages living the healthiest life possible. “We want the landscape to be an extension of that mission,” Tarinelli said. “The landscape department hopes to go from being a passive entity to being an entity that engages, educates and gives opportunities for wellness to the community.” Nearly 1 person killed a day during '100 Deadliest Days of Summer' in Utah DUI, stolen truck and hit-and-run highlight hectic day of back-to-back crashes on I-15 Hurricane history day; fruit growing, sheep shearing and a long-lasting town celebration “To draw upon the energy that’s all around us and focus into our internal well-being,” Tarinelli said.
