Introducing NCCAE's principal for school year 2021-2022 Murphy began her career as a secondary science teacher at Wheeler Intermediate School in Wahiawa, Hawaii in 1996. In 2004, she joined the staff at Central Middle School in Honolulu where she taught science for 2 years before becoming the school's curriculum coordinator. In 2015, Murphy became the principal at Central Middle School where she taught early in her career. As principal for the last 6 years, Murphy has led a comprehensive school academic and financial strategic plan to improve student achievement and established and maintained progress of identified students requiring support and acceleration through action-oriented intervention blocks to ensure success for all students. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Biology from the Univeristy of California at Berkley. She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Holy Names University in Oakland, California and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Univeristy of Hawaii in Honolulu. She was also a participant in the Honolulu cohort of Stanford University's D-School School Retool Fellowship and is a member of several professional organizations including the Association for Middle Level Education, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Hawaii Association of Secondary School Administrators, Hawaii Public Radio, and the Junior League of Honolulu. Additionally she has served as a member of the Hawaii State Department of Education's Superintendent's Special Educational Review Task Force and Honolulu District English Learner Leadership Team.
