I worked 35 years full time and 10 years part time as a classroom teacher and guidance counselor with the Peel District School Board. I also worked part time in the Faculties of Education of York University and the University of Toronto in their Additional Qualifications Programs. I purchased my first SLR camera back in the 60's and instantly fell in love with photography. My love of the outdoors led to my keen interest in hiking and nature/wildlife photography. My hiking and photography excursions have taken me on trips to East Africa, the Canadian and American Rockies, Patagonia (Argentina and Chile), Ecuador and the Galapagos Archipelago, Costa Rica and Florida and will hopefully lead me to more of the world's fascinating locations before I "hang up my cameras and hiking boots". Although it's always nice to travel to exotic locations around the world, I'm thankful for the countless opportunities right here in my own "back yard" of Southern Ontario. Gary Hall is a photographer based in Vermont specializing in architecture and fine art prints. An affiliate member of the American Institute of Architects, Gary has photographed many award-winning projects including numerous LEED certified buildings. His book, ADIRONDACK STYLE with interior designer Ann S. O’Leary, features contemporary interpretations of the rustic style of architecture. Published by Clarkson-Potter, the book attained global success with four printings. Gary has photographed for the prestigious Relais & Chateux group of small hotels and traveled internationally for Sanctuare Properties. Gary holds a B.A. in Fine Arts Photography from Southern Illinois University where he studied with Charles Swedlund- a student of Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind. Living in Vermont’s beautiful Champlain Valley, he has photographed the landscape for over forty years. His luminous black & white prints grace the walls of many corporate buildings and private homes. Prints can be procured via the Edgewater Gallery- see Gallery Representation on this site or by email the artist directly gary@garyhallphoto.com. In 2018 Gary spent a month documenting the ancient Italian hill town of Civita di Bagnoregio on a fellowship awarded through the Civita Institute. Harkening back to 19th century photographic practices, he employed a large format camera and a meditative mindset while photographing in Civita. He then adopted 21st century technology, using modern color film, scanning his negatives to create archival pigment prints. Technological hybrids, Gary's photographs depict Civita today, yet express a timeless sensibility reminiscent of photography's earliest era. This work can be found in the self-published book CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO. Click the link to view and purchase under Books, on this site.
