Born in Tacoma, Washington,[1] Carrell graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a degree in education. He was a teacher in middle school, high school, and college. Carrell served in the Washington House of Representatives 1995–2004 as a Republican. He passed away on May 29, 2013.[1][2] Steve O'Ban was appointed to Carrell's seat on June 5, 2013.[3] He was a member of the Republican leadership, serving as the Deputy Republican Leader. Carrell served in the Washington House of Representatives for 10 years before his appointment to the senate.[4] Carrell earned his B.A. in education from Pacific Lutheran University. He went on to do post-graduate work in science. Carrell worked as a science instructor for Pierce College.
