FODOR'S EXPERT REVIEW Alphen Boutique Hotel ALPHEN DR., CAPE TOWN, WESTERN CAPE, 7848, SOUTH AFRICA CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUTInvalid Date Nov 19 Situated on 11 acres of gardens in leafy Constantia, this glamorous boutique hotel was originally an 18th-century Cape Dutch manor house and working farm. It's conveniently located for those exploring Constantia's renowned wine estates, and boasts tasty destination restaurants in its own right. We also particularly like the stripy-curtained day beds by the pool. Luxurious rooms are in three heritage buildings, all decorated in a bold style that marries the voluptuous excess of velvet and gilt with elegant historical decorum to fantastic effect. Rooms are spacious and bright, and overlook the gardens and a pleasant walking trail. Photo: Superior Suite - The Alphen Boutique Hotel, Interior Photo: Classic Suite - The Alphen Boutique Hotel, Interior Photo: Deluxe Suite - The Alphen Boutique Hotel, Interior Bathrooms have rain showers and large baths, and some suites even have his and hers bathrooms. The style continues, with dark tiles, black marble and fancy gilt mirrors. The attractive lobby really sells itself on the charm and professionalism of the hotel's staff. A gorgeous pool is set down the steps from the building, on the lawns. YOU SHOULD KNOW Some guests feel the pool could be a little quieter and more secluded (it is overlooked by the bar) but we always found it to be a relaxing space. Alphen Hotel Cape Town, South Africa ratings, photos, prices, expert advice, traveler reviews and tips, and more information from Condé Nast Traveler. Alphen Dr., Cape Town, South Africa A 21-suite historic property on 11-plus acres of landscaped gardens in semi-rural Constantia, the Cape’s oldest wine-growing valley. The Alphen, a national monument dating back to the late seventeenth century, has hosted the likes of Mark Twain and Captain Cook, and its role in Cape history is a colorful one. If these whitewashed walls could speak, they’d no doubt tell stories of the political intrigue and hedonistic parties for which the property was known. Old and new juxtaposed to dramatic effect. Interiors are stimulating—take, for example, the all-white suites shot through with purple, red, or cobalt accents and gold lacquer bedside tables (who said bling was bad?) and with original antiques that recall Constantia’s old-money Cape Dutch heritage. In a valley renowned for its conservative hotel rooms, it’s a refreshing change. This year's Readers' Choice Awards survey is live! on Condé Nast Traveler magazine! Second generation. Verified Reviews Write a review It was fantastic. They came when they said they would. They completed the work within a week. When they job turned out to be a bigger job than what we had originally thought, they did not bump up the price. They did about two extra days of work. Really kind people. They cleaned up after themselves every day they were here. This was the second time we had them do a job for us. Built a patio on the side yard and a retaining wall Overall, the work was excellent and the team was great. First comment is that Peter was thorough in his assessment, the cause of the seepage, and options. He actually said that it was a heavy rain season and the water seepage could go away and not return for years, so dealing with the seepage without any sump was an option. Peter also laid out where the best location for the sump would be, and how...Read More Due to recent heavy rain, a once-dry basement began seeping water from under the basement floor. A small section of the basement collected about 1/2 inch of water, which could be vacuumed up but represented a potential recurring problem. Peter Van Alphen and his team installed a sump which completely eliminated the water seepage. CATEGORY Basement Waterproofing Communication between their office prior to the date of work was good. Arrived on time , clean and professional crew, completed all work satisfactorily. Ensured safety precautions in place.
