Great nursing care and physical therapy. As a family member I was made to feel perfectly welcome and my input was encouraged. My husband was a short-term resident who said everyone was very nice and the food was good. The room was perfectly fine - comfortable and with everything needed. But he says the best part of it was the people. I agree! I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident My father was in a double room. Staff the first day he was there were very rude, unkind and abrupt. The second day, he had one cna who was very compassionate. I requested that my father be transferred out of this facility, which is 4 miles away from my home, to a different non_wingate facility 16 miles away, less than 24 hours into his stay here. This facility was awful. The staff (and I mean ALL OF THE STAFF - FROM TOP TO BOTTOM,) could benefit from sensitivity training and a few continuing ed courses in ethics and elder care. I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident Run the other way. My dad went in with a fractured ankle and was told to get a follow-up appointment with an Orthopedic Doctor ASAP. It took Wingate 2 weeks to get an appointment for him. Their excuse was that the Doctor didn't pick up the phone. Really? The ankle was not set properly and Wingate dropped the ball. No one cared enough to get him the proper diagnosis or pain relief. Inadequate physical therapy. He left this hell hole with bedsores. My father will never walk again and will live out the rest of his life in a nursing home because of their ineptitude. He will never sleep in his own bed or listen to his favorite music because the staff was too caught up in their own world to care about his. Dr. Kozi was a disgrace to his profession.

If your considering a nursing facility for someone you care about, I'd avoid this one like the plague. My mother in law was in pretty good shape for 88. Lived with her active husband of 92 in there own tidy home nearby. She enjoyed swimming in her pool, going out to eat and going to church. NEVER incontinent and NEVER dementia. She slipped on a stair and fractured her femur which affected a previous hip replacement apparatus. She came out of surgery remarkably. Post surgery she was to go to this facility for physical therapy prior to going home. Day 1, a brand new pair of slacks was stolen from her closet! We got reimbursed but it definitely raised a red flag with us. Anyway, every day she went to PT, the physical therapist that worked with her said she was doing great and making progress. Day 20 came, we got a letter notifying us of a meeting with the "Social Worker", that title is laughable, should be "Henchman". Bam, "ya your mom's not making any progress so we're going to let Medicare know we're switching her from Rehab status to Convalescence status. Medicare won't pay for convalescence so you'll have to pay out of pocket.....$400 per day." You see, they bill Medicare $400 per day, BUT, Medicare only actually pays them a fraction of that. When you pay out of pocket they get the entire $400 per day. You only pay out of pocket when your a "Convalescent" patient AND they don't provide you any "Skilled Nursing Care" for strictly convalescent residents. What's that mean......they ceased ALL Physical Therapy. WE WERE STUNNED, it came out of the blue. They said that her lack of progress in physical therapy was attributable to her dementia? Ah, she doesn't have dementia! We had elected to do her laundry ourselves and we were noticing it was overly soiled, we investigated / questioned them about it and they stated that they keep her in a diaper and just change it a couple times a day because she's incontinent.....ah no she's not, never has been! We now pushed them to check her for a Urinary Tract Infection because it can cause dementia like symptoms and demanded they respond to the call / help button in a reasonable amount of time so she can be transferred to the toilet or make a toilet schedule. They resisted doing both for 2 reasons; it cost them money and time. They finally gave in, guess what, UTI test came back positive. If we didn't fight them on it they would have turned her into a vegetable. No thanks to them she's coming home today, they even screwed up the transportation too so we arranged it on our own. She'll have better care, better PT, and OMG better food.
